Yaoshang Diaries

Yaoshang is one of the most beautiful and meaningful festivals celebrated in Manipur. It is observed for five days during the spring season and begins on the full moon day of the Manipuri month of Lamta, March. For the people of Manipur, Yaoshang is not just a festival; it is a time when communities come together to celebrate tradition, friendship, and the joy of being with one another. The festival begins with a traditional ritual known as Yaoshang Mei-Thaba . Just after sunset, a small straw hut is burned in every leikai or locality. This symbolic act marks the official start of the celebration. Soon after, children begin visiting houses to collect small monetary donations called Naka-Theng. It is a simple but heartwarming tradition that spreads happiness among children and elders alike. Yaoshang is truly the most important festival of my beloved state. Every year people celebrate it with excitement through sports competitions, music, dance, and social gatherings. During these five ...

February : A Mercurial month of Flashbacks

It's February... Oh !!! time never stopped as long as one was alive; it kept flowing endlessly like a river stream. People who lived a good and happy life often worried about how quickly time flew by. But paradoxically, for those living with depression, severe health issues, or deep suffering, time felt mercurial . They did not really care about how fast time passed. Instead, they kept thinking about when their suffering would finally end, wishing time would move faster so they would not have to endure the pain for long. During that time, BT and I were called by Madam to our former college to do some work in the Mathematics Department. The task was related to organizing mathematics books that were to be kept in the library. We had to re-write all the details properly : the book titles, authors, publishers, references, and codes. BT checked and read out the details carefully, and I wrote everything neatly in the register book. Having that work made me feel like I finally had somethi...

Topic : Yet to be known

Hello ! 23.01.2026  I went out somewhere to find a little peace and calm. At around 11:00 a.m., GN’s father and I went to the airport to pick up GN. I had already heard from him on a phone call that he would be coming from UP to Imphal three days earlier than expected. After picking him up from the airport, we went to his maternal house. There was an occasion at their place, and his parents warmly asked me to join them for a meal. I felt shy at first, but I accepted their invitation and ate with them. The food tasted really good, and the atmosphere felt welcoming. Later, his father dropped me home around 1:30 p.m. Once I reached home, I went straight to bed, opened Spotify and YouTube, listened to some songs, and soon fell asleep for a short while. At around 5:00 p.m., I went to attend one of my high school colleague’s wedding ceremonies at Wangkhei. After that, we all gathered at the groom’s house. I met many friends whom I had not seen for years, and the moment felt truly amazing...

A Drive with Mother : Embracing the unknown

I woke up at five in the morning and sat on my bed for almost thirty minutes. I was not thinking about anything specific, or maybe I was thinking about everything without being able to name a single thought. My body was awake, but my mind felt suspended somewhere between sleep and consciousness. There was no urgency, no emotion, no plan. Just silence and stillness. When I finally got up, I brushed my teeth and went into the bathroom. Even there, I found myself sitting quietly again, the same way I had earlier. Time passed slowly, almost unnoticed. After finishing my routine, I did a few small things and then sat on the table and chair I had bought last year. Without realizing when or how, I fell asleep once more. Around eight in the morning, my mother asked me to drop her at her maternal house because there was some work to be done. I did not change my clothes and went out wearing the same outfit from the previous day. Somehow, that did not matter to me at all. As we started drivi...

A quiet past

There was a time during my high school days when life felt simple. Responsibilities were few, and the future felt far away. Everything changed after my father passed away. His death became a turning point in my life, and slowly a mobile game called Clash of Clans became my escape from reality. Before my father’s death, my evenings followed a beautiful and disciplined routine. Every night, after returning from Khwairamband Bazar, my father would sit beside me and teach me Science at home. My parents ran shops there, selling jewellery, dress and other items. No matter how tired my father was, he always made time for my studies. Those nights were filled with care, patience, and guidance. Even today, when I think about them, it feels like those moments are still alive somewhere. After my father passed away, the discipline and direction he brought into my life slowly faded. I lost interest in my studies and found it difficult to concentrate. The house felt quiet and heavy. My unmarrie...

The freshness of the new year brings good energy while the end of the year often slips into procrastination.

At the beginning of the year, especially on January 9 , I felt something truly unforgettable. Everything felt lighter and filled with positive energy . There was a quiet motivation in the air and a strong sense that change was possible that beginnings were still pure. As the year came to an end, that same energy slowly faded and turned into procrastination . Goals were postponed, intentions felt heavier and time seemed to slip away faster than I expected. This contrast between the fresh start and the tired ending made me reflect deeply on my aim in life and my career. Lately, I have not been taking care of myself the way I should. I do not eat regularly, I do not get much work done, and most days I end up staying in bed feeling drained. There are moments when I feel overwhelmed and disappointed in myself, moments when I think about giving up or walking away from everything I once worked for, including my studies and other efforts. I wish that in the coming year, I may come across ...
